With over 120,000 posts and 1.5 million pageviews, the Voicelessness and Emotional Survival Message Board has become a valuable resource for people learning about and dealing with narcissistic spouses/partners, boyfriends/girlfriends, parents, siblings, bosses, and co-workers--as well as other sources of "voicelessness".

Therapists:    Many people come to the Voicelessness and Emotional Survival web site searching for a local therapist with experience treating adult children of narcissistic parents and people with narcissistic spouses or partners.  Over the years, I have received hundreds of requests for referrals from all over the country/world, but I have no place to send these people.  Please check out the new Therapist List below if you are interested in becoming part of a referral network.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have been on St John's Wort for ever.
It helps a great deal with mood and concentration but my supply recently ran out and was thinking that maybe this is a good opportunity to quit?

Is/was anybody on it and did you manage to quit without any withdrawal symptoms?

Many thanks for your input

After a week of not taking it and feeling that i am so depressed and physically weak i couldn't bear it anymore, i went out and bought a new supply and wait for a couple of days to pass so it will kick in.
If anybody has any advice on how to be off it without major withdrawal symptoms, please do tell.

Hi P,

I've found that taking a good combination of vitamins and minerals helps to keep my mood stable and keep depression at bay but I've always got personal advice about that kind of thing from a nutritionist as it's very complex and you need to know what you're doing with depression.  But if there is someone in your area you could visit they could recommend foods to increase (or decrease, sometimes eating foods we're allergic or intolerant to can make us feel depressed) and supplements to take in the meantime, then once you've got your natural resources up you could start to slowly come off the SJW.  But if it were me I'd be looking at making sure I had something else well established before trying to come off it again and giving my body plenty of time to adjust to any changes.

I just started taking something with St John's wort in it but then I read on the internet that it can have adverse effects with sunlight. It can even be dangerous to your eyes in the long run (cataract) so I think I will stop taking it. I started taking the supplement because of anxiety and not so much depression. Since I started taking borage oil my depressive moods are as good as gone.
